Shadi ka season.........
Shadi ka season........
What is shadi or marriage in simple terms......a social occasion where the bride and groom get married....but there is more to it......its magic. It is the day when the groom finally sees her beloved princess in a beautiful sari or lehnga, wearing jewellry, looking dead gorgeous.....in short form top to toe...a divine beloved. On the other hand the bride gets her wish to see her handsome hunk in a sherwani and on a horse, waiting for him to take her in his arms and ride away to a fairyland far far away......Welcome to the 21st century Shadiyan...which is just not about brides and grooms but its about the celebrations.....food,feista,party,song and dance, rituals, make up,jewellry, costumes, bright faces, lots of masti and maza, flowers, lights, crackers, laughter, joy and pride..........in short a magical journey.
In India there is ample opputunity to find yourself getting invited to a shadi just at the peak of summer from the neighbours all aroung you......The worst part is if you do not know the bride relatives or the groom relatives but your parents know them...so you have to be a part of it,get decked up,eat and keep on smilling for the rest of the day.I am sure many of you must have felt the same way...But it is the friend's wedding which gives you great joy and enthusiam to look your best and enjoy every moment of it....
Last night I went to one such shadi. The moment I steped out of my fatfatti (I mean bike), the roads to the shadi hall which looked no less then a princly court welcomed me inside and I walked over the red carpet to explore the beauty of it.At the door I stood and glanced at everyone just as heroines do when they go in a party. What I saw was very strange yet very enchanting. There were strange faces smilling at each other coming form all corners of our state and looking very bright indeed. The ladies had worn all their jewellry which was their life long collection in one day and your eyes could get bedazzeled with the shine of the diamonds.Lots of different hairstyles and gorgeous designer saris and suits.Well the men were not behind too, they wore their best stylish shirts and gelled hair.Their eyes ciculated the hall to get fixed on pretty faces.
How can you say that a shadi was successful or not ,two word...food and hospitality. As I walked towards the brides room the fragnance formt the Muglai food filled the staircase giving the empty tummies a huge crunch. If you have not stuufed yourselves with the mouth watering kabas, biryani, shadi murd, murg musallam,zarda,kher,gullajamun....you have missed the delicious part of shadi. But most important if the girls and guys who have taken hours to get their hair, dress, make up and attitude perfect do not get a glance back forn the opposite gender the whole evening and the labour seems to lose its value.
The Indian shadi's are a way of life. Its like a big social gatterinng,a big carnival where the entire society come to bless the new couple.Every shadi is gettign mixed up with the other traditional shadis because the people want to explore every part of it.As the lights slowed down and the people walked away,I looked back at the glittering empty hall...which stood there to bring joy to another couple at another time on another day.
