The Nameless Artist
The Nameless Artist
Here I stand, Here I bow,
From Kings and queens to peasants and thieves,
None could deny his magical deeds,
The Poor and hungry his slaves,
Humankind his gift,
I stand here, I am through,
The light if divinity so pure to know,
A touch all it took for me to heal,
Born again to live in peace,
My world through my colors now one sees.
Here is the nameless artist....
The Nameless artist...the words just flew and a string was made...this poem is my dedication to artists like them.
This art my friends is called road drawings. We know about 3D road drawings back in the West which is practiced and loved by all, but not this because it is here in India that such art arises out of necessity. This particular man whom I encountered while walking down had to say many things. What astonished me the most was that he said his art was not for sale when I asked him why he did not paint and sell his works? He said his ancestors had been in this kind of art from ages.He draws on roads and whatever the people drop on the pavement he picks up and goes home.He takes pride in saying that his younger sons also draw like him ,even better than him.He said he liked to do this and no one forces him to do so.It all depends on him how he wants to work with the drawings. Most of his drawings are of Jesus Christ, Krishna ,Shiva, Hanuman mostly inspirational figures from the mythological epic Ramayana and Mahabharata. It can also be any famous celebrity or sports stars.
Over the time I have realized that Our creator has given us immense imagination and talent to turn our thoughts into reality. What we see may not me remarkable but it does tell us that we live in an age where one has to earn for oneself somehow. In a place like India this may be a common sight. This does not arouse pity but this is an example of how courageous humans are.One does not need the government to feed them or any other people to have pity on them.If you have strength in your self then nothing matters, you will remain happy while being poor.
The Nameless artist represents the spirit of our nation, Indians the most. When I asked why did you wrote "Help me".He had nothing to say.He tried to hide his shame as if a child was caught cheating.Even thou he didn't said anything I understood that this had become his means to earn...He was not begging directly but indirectly he was asking the passer bye to stop, have a look and pay some penny from their pockets. But no matter what he is still indeed the nameless artist.Sufia Khatoon
hey friends what you think about this article
ReplyDeleteHi Sufia
ReplyDeletegood you tagged me...its getting really tough to keep up with the loads of networks today. coming back to the post, we see such artists all over the world. the other day I saw a lady making a sand Hanuman at Juhu beach- it was so gigantic!
that apart, the role of art in our society is very superficial. artists are either soaked in luxury or extreme poverty
art has helped maintain his dignity for him!
nice article and observation btw...
Thanks Vinaya.......I like to bring my observations here and talk about them.did you read my Flavors of Kolkata street,it was really liked by my friends.
